Tim Diette, PhDProvost and Dean of the Faculty
Timothy M. Diette serves as Provost and Dean of the Faculty at Hampden-Sydney College, where he oversees faculty governance, curriculum development, strategic planning, and academic administration. He joined Hampden-Sydney in January 2024 with a deep appreciation for the College's distinctive mission of forming good men and good citizens, and a commitment to building on that mission through curricular and co-curricular innovation, philanthropic cultivation, and collaborative institutional leadership. Dr. Diette came to Hampden-Sydney from Washington and Lee University, where he spent twenty years as a professor of economics and held several senior leadership roles, including senior advisor to the president for strategic analysis, associate dean of the Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics, and executive and academic director of the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty — a 19-member consortium of colleges and universities. He has also held visiting research appointments at the University of Melbourne and Duke University. His scholarly work focuses on the economics of education. Dr. Diette holds a B.A. in Economics and History from the University of Vermont, where he graduated summa cum laude and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
