With spring commencements behind us and fall preparations still on the horizon, the ACAO Board of Directors has taken advantage of the relative quiet in our individual academic schedules to turn our attention to exciting happenings within the Association. As part of our ongoing effort to bring resources and opportunities to you as Chief Academic Officers I’m delighted to share with you the following plans for the 2017-2018 member year:

  • In early fall we will be engaged in a collaborative effort with NADOHE to present a webinar event addressing current issues surrounding controversial speakers on campus. Look for additional details coming soon.
  • In November, February and May we will be hosting additional webinar events focusing on issues such as CAO’s finding and working with a mentor, "Career Paths for CAOs—Who’s in Charge?" and a focused session stemming from Harvard University’s former President Drew Gilpin Faust’s much discussed 2017 commencement address.
  • The Digital Fellows project is about to get under way with its first convening set for July 17 in Scottsdale, AZ. Be sure to visit our website often as resources from this project will be continually be made available for your review.
  • We want to get to know you better. To that end, ACAO wants to sponsor a Chief Academic Officers’ networking meet & greet event near you. If you would like to host a small regional get together of CAO’s in your area, please let us know!
  • And finally, we are working with ACE to develop panels for the 2018 ACE Annual Meeting and we need your input. Watch for a poll coming soon that will ask you to help us choose from a list of suggested topics.

As always, we want to hear from you.  Please feel free to reach out to me, any member of the ACAO Board of Directors or our Executive Director, Theresa Gibbon with comments and suggestions as to how we can make ACAO work for you.  You'll find all of our contact information on the acao.org website or you can reply directly to this email.

Warm regards,

B.J. Reed

President, ACAO
